Detailed Corporate Timeline & Sectors

  • Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Maritime Bank) was officially established under license No. 0001/NH-GP dated June 8, 1991 of the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam. On July 12, 1991, Maritime Bank officially opened and went into operation in Hai Phong Port City, immediately after the Ordinance on Commercial Banks, Credit Cooperatives and Finance Companies took effect. At that time, the debate about the joint stock bank model had not yet ended and Maritime Bank had become one of the first joint stock commercial banks in Vietnam. That is the result of the collective strength and innovation consciousness of the founding shareholders: Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation, Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration...
  • Initially, Maritime Bank had only 24 shareholders, charter capital of 40 billion VND and a few branches in large provinces such as Hai Phong, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Ho Chi Minh City. It can be said that the birth of Maritime Bank in the early 90s of the twentieth century contributed to creating an important breakthrough in the process of Vietnam's economic restructuring.
  • Looking back at the development path, 1997 - 2000 was the most challenging and arduous period of Maritime Bank. Due to the impact of the Asian financial and monetary crisis, the Bank encountered many difficulties. However, with its internal strength and bravery, Maritime Bank has gradually regained balance and developed strongly since 2005.
  • Up to now, Maritime Bank has become a strong, sustainable joint stock commercial bank and has created trust with customers. Maritime Bank's charter capital is 8,000 billion VND and total assets reach more than 110,000 billion VND. The operating network is constantly expanding from 16 transaction points in 2005, now up to nearly 230 transaction points nationwide.
  • August 12, 2015, Mekong Development Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( MDB ) will officially merge into Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank ( Maritime Bank ) according to Decision No. 1391/QD-NHNN of the Governor of the State Bank.
