SAIGON PORT was opened from February 22, 1860, to April 1963 - after the Nham Tuat Peace Treaty (June 5, 1862) approved by Napoleon III and King Tu Duc - officially under the control of the French State with the name Saigon Commercial Port.
From July 25, 1975, Saigon Commercial Port changed its name to Saigon Port according to the decision of the Director General of the General Department of Seaways. Saigon Port has a total area of 475,000 m2, 3 loading docks with berth length:
- Nha Rong Wharf (428 m)
- Khanh Hoi Wharf (1,264 m)
- Tan Thuan Wharf (866.5 m)
and many buoys moored along both sides of the river.
Through many stages of development, today, Saigon Port is an international port, the main port of South Vietnam. Total area is 500,000 m2 including 5 port areas (Cruise Passenger, Nha Rong Khanh Hoi, Tan Thuan, Tan Thuan 2 and Phu My Steel Port) with 3,000 m of wharves, 30 floating wharves and 280,000 m2 of warehouse
