Detailed Corporate Timeline & Sectors

Establishment History:

  • Vietnam Shipping Company, the predecessor of Vietnam Shipping Joint Stock Company, was established on July 1, 1970 according to the Decision of the Ministry of Transport on the basis of merging three fleets of Giai Phong, Tu Luc, Quyet Thang and a material workshop. In March 1975, the Ministry of Transport decided to separate a large part of the Company's vehicles and labor to establish Coastal Transport Company (Vietcoship later became Vinaship) with the main task of organizing transport on domestic routes. Also from here, Vietnam Ocean Shipping Company (VOSCO - under the Seaway Department, now Vietnam Maritime Administration) only focuses on one task: organizing foreign transportation, serving import and export and quickly building a long-distance shipping fleet.
  • Vietnam Ocean Shipping Company (VOSCO) was re-established according to Decision No. 29/TTG dated October 26, 1993 of the Prime Minister and became an independent accounting member enterprise directly under Vietnam National Shipping Lines Corporation (VINALINES) according to Decision No. 250/TTG dated April 29, 1994 of the Prime Minister.
  • After 37 years of operating under the 100% state-owned company model, on July 11, 2007, implementing Decision No. 2138/QD-BGTVT of the Minister of Transport, Vietnam Shipping Company organized the conversion to a joint stock company model.
  • On January 1, 2008, Vietnam Ocean Shipping Joint Stock Company officially went into operation under a new model with the name Vietnam Ocean Shipping Joint Stock Company (VOSCO) with a charter capital of 1,400 billion VND, of which 60% of the capital is owned by the State, the remaining capital is the capital of other institutional shareholders and individuals with a total of more than 3,500 shareholders.
