- Southern Food Corporation Limited (VINAFOOD II), formerly known as Southern Rice Corporation, was established in 1976 under Decision No. 130/LTTP dated August 18, 1976 of the Ministry of Food and Foodstuffs;
- July 1978: Southern Rice Corporation was renamed Southern Food Corporation (Decision No. 1606/LTTP-LD dated July 20, 1978 of the Ministry of Food and Foodstuffs);
- September 1986: The Corporation was renamed to Food Corporation Region II (Decision No. 493 QD/TC dated September 9, 1986 of the Ministry of Food);
- November 1987: The Council of Ministers (now the Government) decided to establish the Central Food Corporation (Vinafood) (Decision No. 210/HDBT dated November 7, 1987) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry on the basis of reorganizing the Food Corporations of Regions I, II, Central Region, Food import and export, Packaging Materials Company II and rice and flour milling enterprises. At this time, the Corporation became the representative agency of the Central Food Corporation located in Ho Chi Minh City (Decision No. 417/NN-CNTP dated November 30, 1987 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry);
- January 1990: Re-establishment of Central Food Corporation II (VINAFOOD II) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (Decision No. 19 NN-TCCB/QD dated January 18, 1990 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry);
- May 1995: The Prime Minister decided to establish the Southern Food Corporation on the basis of reorganizing the Central Food Corporation II, the Central Food Company III and food business units from Quang Nam - Da Nang onwards (Decision No. 311/QD/TTg dated May 24, 1995 of the Prime Minister government). The Corporation is also known as Corporation 91 (special class) because it was established according to the pilot model of establishing a business group in Decision No. 91-TTg dated March 7, 1994 of the Prime Minister;
- July 2003: The Corporation began to carry out the process of arranging and converting state-owned enterprises and piloting the organization of operations according to the parent company-subsidiary model of the Government (Decision No. 136/2003/QD-TTg dated July 10, 2003 of the Prime Minister);
- December 2005: The Prime Minister issued Decision No. 333/2005/QD-TTg dated December 14, 2005 on the establishment of the Southern Food Corporation to organize operations according to the Parent Company - Subsidiary Company model; Decision No. 125/2006/QD-TTg dated May 30, 2006 promulgating the Charter on organization and operation of the Southern Food Corporation according to the parent company-subsidiary model. The Corporation has registered its business, re-engraved its seal and officially started operating under a new model since February 8, 2007;
- Decree No. 25/2010/ND-CP dated March 19, 2010 of the Government on converting state-owned companies into single-member limited liability companies and organizing the management of single-member limited liability companies owned by the state; Southern Food Corporation transformed its operations to the model of a one-member limited liability company owned by the State according to Decision No. 979/QD-TTg dated June 25, 2010 of the Prime Minister; and from March 30, 2011 until now, the Corporation has officially registered to operate under a new model with the name: One Member LLC - Southern Food Corporation;
- As of March 31, 2017, the Southern Food Corporation includes 14 units under the parent block and 01 Corporation Office unit, 12 controlling joint stock companies, 8 affiliated companies with nearly 2,600 officers and employees. Southern Food Corporation has its headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City and production, business, and warehouse facilities stretching from Da Nang to Ca Mau, especially concentrated in the Mekong Delta provinces, where most of Vietnam's exported rice is produced;
- Along with the increase in scale and structure, Southern Food Corporation also operates in many fields and industries such as processing, importing and exporting food and agricultural products with the main product being rice. There are also other items such as processed foods, wheat, flour, packaging, anchovies and other business and service activities according to the provisions of law;
